Fall Color
Submitted on 01/10/2012
Question:
We will be in your area mid-October. Is this a good time for Fall Color? If not, when is the best time?
Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Charlottesville & Albemarle County. Predicting Fall leaf peak depends on weather, temperature and climate. Usually for our area late October and early November have been best but there is still beautiful scenery and great weather during mid-October. October is our busiest month in Charlottesville with fall festivals, leaf changes and football games so reservations are usually at a premium. The best fall leaf reports are available late September and early October you can contact Virginia Tourism's Fall Foliage Report - 1.800.424.LOVE, Forest Service Fall Color hotline - 800.354.4595 - Press "8" for the Southern States report, Kkyline Drive/Shenandoah National Park - 540.999.3500 (press “7”) and Blue Ridge Parkway (between Waynesboro and the North Carolina border) - 828.298.0398 (press “7”). Please feel free to call our office closer to the season at tollfreee 877.386.1103.

History
Submitted on 01/02/2012
Question:
Where did Hydraulic Road get its name?
Answer:
According to our friends at the Historical Society, Hydraulic Road is named for a mid 19th century mill called the Hydraulic Mill. The adjacent neighborhood was known as the Hydrualic area as well. This was close to the site of the Rio Hill skirmish by Gen. Custer and Southern Troops in the area of today's reservoir.
hotel choice
Submitted on 12/29/2011
Question:
I would like to stay at a hotel that is in either a historic area or a beautiful area (like the scenes on your website!) Will be visiting Monticello and then driving back to D C.
Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. I would recommend staying at the Omni Hotel on the Downtown Mall, the Hampton Inn University, the Courtyard Marriott University or the Red Roof Inn, all of these are located near the University and Downtown areas which are loaded with historical sites. If you like B&B's then you could go with the Inn at Court Square, 200 South Street, the Inn at 400 High Street, or the Dinsmore house.
Transport from Charlottesville to Monticello
Submitted on 12/27/2011
Question:
It would be appreciated if you could advise if there are any day tours run from Charlottesville to Monticello. i shall be arriving by Amtrak and will not have a vehicle.
Answer:
Coming by train is a wonderful way to visit Charlottesville! Depending on where you stay, you are often within walking distance of many venues, restaurants and attractions. However, Monticello is not one of them. Situated on top of Carter's Mountain, the road to Monticello is curvy and narrow. Transportation options to Monticello are limited and a taxi is usually your best option. Some hotels provide shuttles to Monticello but would need to be checked on an individual basis. There are options to choose from on our Transportation website. If you have additional questions please call our office at 877.386.1103 and let one of our travel specialists assist you.
