We are proud to introduce to you the 2012 season of the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival. Our tradition of presenting the finest chamber music from near and far, from past and present, and from high and low in our hometown will continue as strong as ever in this our thirteenth season. We have many fine things to present this fall: new works with percussion from composers Georg Friedrich Haas, Missy Mazzoli, and Jeffrey Cotton; new works also from Stephen Hartke, Steve Mackey, Ljova, and György Kürtàg; and staples of the repertoire (e.g., Mozart’s String Quartet in C Major, Dvoràk’s Piano Quartet), anchored by Johannes Brahms’ orchestra serenade in its original instrumentation as a Nonet for winds and strings. There will be sounds of many shapes and sizes. We have also assembled a fantastic group of performers, some of whom our audiences will recognize from previous years, and some of whom will be new to our series. Longtime friend of the festival Jennifer Frautschi will perform with newcomer John Blacklow, presenting music from their upcoming recording of sonatas by Robert Schumann; friends Colin Jacobsen, Nicholas Cords and Johnny Gandelsman will bring their award-winning string quartet, Brooklyn Rider, along with pieces written both by and for them. Along with the inimitable clarinetist Matthew Hunt, we have a tremendous assortment of wind players to join us for our last two concerts… there are in fact too many highlights to list, and we hope you will explore this website for more details (most of which seem like highlights to us). Our heartfelt thanks go out to all our friends and supporters, and especially to our board, families, and manager, without whom we would make no sound. We hope you will join us this fall for our series of concerts on Sunday and Thursday at Cabell Hall and the Paramount Theater, and also for our free lunchtime concert on Friday, September 14th, at the Paramount on the downtown mall. Tickets and Subscriptions will go on sale in July. Please check back here for more details later this summer.
