April 2013 marks the 80th anniversary of Historic Garden Week in Virginia! Historic Garden Week is the oldest and largest statewide event of its kind in the nation. This year, the Rivanna Garden Club, Charlottesville Garden Club, and Albemarle Garden Club will be hosting the house and garden tour in spectacular Nelson County on April 21st and 22nd. The local event features three mountainside homes in Wintergreen’s Stoney Creek and two properties in Afton. This area is dramatic with gorgeous mountain views, sweeping terrain, and unique natural gardens. All five homes and gardens will be open for both days. Historic Garden Week will also feature Albemarle County properties: Morven Estate, University of Virginia Carr’s Hill and East Lawn Pavilions, and events at Monticello. All funds raised benefit the restoration and preservation of historic public gardens in Virginia, such as Monticello, Montpelier, Poplar Forest, and the University of Virginia gardens.
