Released in 1982, the musical film Annie is based on the Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn was based on the long-running (1924-2010) Little Orphan Annie comic strip begun by Harold Gray. The film is directed by John Huston, written by Carol Sobieski, choreographed by Arlene Phillips with musical sequences created by Joe Layton, and features an impressive ensemble cast stage and screen veterans consisting of Albert Finney, Carol Burnett, Ann Reinking, Tim Curry, Bernadette Peters, Geoffrey Holder, Edward Herrmann, and Aileen Quinn as the title character in her feature film debut. The film tells the story of Annie, an orphan living in New York City during the Great Depression who desires to have a good family. When she is taken in by billionaire Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks, her alcoholic caretaker (Carol Burnett) and her deadbeat brother (Tim Curry) see a chance to strike it rich. Rated PG Runtime: 2 hrs. 8 min.
