Registration opens for the 10th Annual Gingerbread Competition, part of Virginia Gingerbread Christmas. Registration is open from November 1, 2013 through December 2, 2013. The 10th Annual DBAC Gingerbread Competition will be held December 5th through December 8th at the Omni Hotel (235 West Main Street) in the heart of the Downtown Mall. Along with the Gingerbread Competition, Virginia Gingerbread Christmas© will once again host Mrs. Claus Invites... and the St. Nicholas reception. The competition is open to everyone who wishes to participate with a completed entry form and paid fees where appropriate. This year’s theme is "Stage and Screen: Favorite Movie or Play." We encourage participants to make houses that reflect the theme. To download a registration form or for more information, visit An entry form must be filled out for each house submitted for judging. Please send entry forms and checks to the Downtown Business Association of Charlottesville; P.O. Box 253; Charlottesville, VA 22902. Entry fees: Professional: $25, Adult: $15, Family: $20, Teen, Youth, and Child: FREE. Please make all checks payable to DBAC/Virginia Gingerbread Christmas. Categories: Please note that the categories changed in 2012. The new categories are Professional, Adult (ages 18+), Teen (ages 13-17), Youth (ages 9-12), Child (ages 4-8), and Family. All houses will be available for public viewing at the Omni Hotel (Preston Room) beginning on December 5th at 5:00pm through December 8th at 4:30pm. First and second place prizes will be awarded in each category. There will also be a prize awarded for the People's Choice (does not include professional category). And this year, the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society will be giving an award for the house that most accurately depicts this year's theme of favorite movie filmed in the Charlottesville area.
