Alexander House Inn / Hostel

Alexander House Inn & Hostel is a worker-owned co-operative business. Simply put, the members of our collective share the ownership, the responsibilities, and the decision-making.

Meet Kassia, Angel, Lun, Chris, Kelly, and Sky. We bought the business from Mare Hunter on October 1st, 2009, after a whirlwind 2 months of organizing. With an age range of 22 to 30 we are all young, ambitious, and community-minded. Our vision is to operate out of several locations, each with its own character. Each will provide unique opportunities for travelers to experience the culture and community of Charlottesville, and at least one will provide space for the locals to come together casually or for planned social events. What excites us most is the intersection of the world of travel and the world of rooted community. Each have much to offer the other.

Rates (may vary during special events):

The Hostel:

Single and double beds (a total of 6) are available in our mixed-gender bunk house. $30 including tax/night per bed $40 including/night for two people in one bed. The whole hostel may be rented for $180.

The Hostel features a small kitchen area with a hotplate, fridge, toaster, pots, pans, and dishes. Basic breakfast food is provided (bread, fruit, coffee, tea). There is one bathroom w/shower.

The Inn:

Three private rooms are available. The Belmont and Fifeville rooms have double beds: $75 including tax/night per room. The Vinegar Hill room is more spacious and has a double bed and single bed, ideal for a small family or a couple of traveling companions: $90 including tax/night for 1-2 people.

For all three rooms, there is a per person charge of $10 for more than 3 people.

Children under 5 are free.

The Inn has one shared bathroom, as well as a living room, dining room and kitchen. Basic breakfast (bread, butter and jelly, fruit, coffee, and tea) is complimentary.

The entire Inn may be reserved for $300/night, affording guests total privacy and extra attention from our hosts. Floor space is also available, so you can fit as many people as you like, though we don’t recommend more than 10. A deposit of $100 per night is required 4 weeks in advance or within 1 week if the reservation is made with less than 4 weeks notice.
