Calendar Of Events
One sign of a vibrant community is a calendar packed with events, and Charlottesville is no exception!
Each year, major annual festivals and events draw thousands of visitors, starting with First Night Virginia, a fun and safe New Year's Eve celebration on the Downtown Mall. Music, food, fireworks, performing arts and more draw people of all ages: families with infants, senior citizens, teens and adults alike. In the spring, the Virginia Festival of the Book offers five days of mostly free events celebrating reading and the culture around books - not simply as a consumer passion but as an in-depth exploration of literature. Authors, editors and others give readings, engage in panel discussions and mingle with residents and visitors throughout the community.
Longing for more events? Scope out CvilleCalendar.com for more options on how to spend your time in Cville!
Take me thereThe 4th of July celebration and naturalization ceremony at Monticello honors America's Declaration of Independence each summer at the home of its author.
In the fall, the Virginia Film Festival celebrates the power of cinema to inspire, enlighten and entertain, extending a broad cultural and intellectual reach across a wide variety of topics. Outside the city, Shenandoah National Park and the Skyline Drive is filled with "leaf-peepers," bird-watchers and outdoor enthusiasts drinking in the beauty of fall foliage.
While these annual events draw tens of thousands to the area, they're just the beginning of the community-focused culture of Charlottesville's charm. From weekly "Fridays after Five" gatherings on the Downtown Mall to the buzzing City Market each Saturday morning to steeplechase racing, orchard outings and the Ash Lawn Opera Festival, Charlottesville celebrates its unique cultural capital with events throughout the year.
