Lewis & Clark Exploratory Center

Darden Towe Park
Charlottesville, Virginia 22911

The Lewis & Clark Exploratory Center features tours and hands-on activities that relate to exploration past and present: mapmaking, journaling, drawing, nature observation, carpentry, and photography. We are open by reservation only, and our program listings can be found through our Eventbrite home page: lewisandclarkexploratorycenter.eventbrite.com If you don't see a time that works for you, please call us to schedule a more convenient time. Note: depending on bookings, we may need at least two days' notice. Our building is on land once owned by William Clark's family and beside the Rivanna River where Jefferson used to canoe. Tours include your own guide to our full-size Lewis & Clark Expedition replica boats and our exhibition hall. We have rotating and permanent exhibitions related to both the local history of Lewis & Clark and the national journey. Ticket prices depend on the program; they generally range from $10 to $40 per person. Each Eventbrite listing will have the price. Our signature tour includes a historical walking tour of our trails by the Rivanna River--wear walking shoes and comfortable clothes. Jefferson's connection to the Rivanna River and how it impacted the Lewis & Clark Expedition are discussed. Photography and journaling and watercolor workshops are based on nature observation on our trails and by the river.
