The Blue Ridge Parkway travels 217 miles through the Commonwealth of Virginia, allowing visitors to travel from its beginning at the southern end of the Shenandoah National Park to the North Carolina border, near Fisher's Peak. For those of you who like to take your time while traveling, there are four campgrounds, a lodge, housekeeping cabins, four restaurants, and gift shops. Picnic tables are available at many overlooks. In addition, there are four visitor centers conveniently located for information and restroom breaks. The Parkway through Virginia offers spectacular views and interesting examples of Appalachian culture at places such as Humpback Rocks and Mabry Mill. The Appalachian Trail can be accessed from the Parkway at more than twenty overlooks and parking areas in Virginia, providing several opportunities to hike a section of this popular national scenic trail.
