Michie Tavern Group Tours
MICHIE TAVERN, located ½ mile below Jefferson’s Monticello, accommodated travelers with food, drink and lodging more than 200 years ago. Today, visitors experience the Tavern’s past through an historical journey which recreates 18th-century tavern life. Servers in period attire offer bountiful COLONIAL MIDDAY FARE. The rustic tavern setting renders a dining experience rich in southern culture and hospitality for families to enjoy. Featured is a buffet of southern fried chicken, marinated baked chicken, hickory-smoked pork barbecue, stewed tomatoes, black-eyed peas, buttermilk biscuits and so much more.
In the Spring of 2019, you will be able to enjoy your favorite beverage in the 1784 Pub here at Michie Tavern.
We are making modifications to connect the oldest section of the Tavern to our existing dining room; renovations began January 2, 2019. Walls are being exposed that haven’t seen daylight in many years!
This expansion will not alter our normal dining operation. As our guests enjoy Virginia wine, brews or hard cider in the oldest section of Michie Tavern, a true 18th-century atmosphere will exist.
We will enhance the experience through education of not only our story but also the evolution of Virginia’s wine, beer and cider industry.
After a leisurely lunch guests may enjoy relaxed shopping in FIVE UNIQUE SHOPS – all housed in distinct historic structures. The Tavern-Museum Shop, The Metal Smith Shop, The Clothier upstairs in The General Store and The Artisan Store each provide a one-of-a-kind experience above and beyond plentiful shopping opportunities. Michie Tavern is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Midday Fare is offered 11:30 to 3:00 daily.
Michie Tavern has an adaptable interpretive program. Express your group's interests and our museum staff will adjust our program to accommodate their wishes
We are flexible. We understand that time schedules are not an exact science. We will gladly extend or shorten our tour to fit your group's time constraints
