MICHIE TAVERN ca. 1784, located ½ mile below Jefferson’s Monticello, offers four unique shops, all housed within historic structures. THE TAVERN-MUSEUM SHOP, adjacent to the dining room, offers an attractive line of gifts that reflect the original Tavern. "The Tavern Collection” focuses on 18th century reproductions of colonial wares featured on the tour. Games, hand-blown glassware, period style weaponry from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, toys, quill pens, inkwells and tri-corner hats are highlighted. Open daily 9:00 to 5:00. THE METAL SMITH SHOP is located in an historic 1822 structure. Many of these items are handcrafted in copper, pewter, brass and silver and feature everything from house wares to jewelry. Seasonal (open daily) 11:00 to 4:00. THE ANTIQUES & ARTIFACTS SHOP is housed in an historic 1790 chestnut log cabin. This shop features antique weaponry and Virginia relics. In addition to antique firearms, this shop features 18th and 19th century currency, newspapers, gaming pieces, books and so much more. This shop serves as an educational venue where one can experience the history or take “an original piece of history” home with them. Seasonal (open daily) 11:00 – 4:00. THE GENERAL STORE, housed within the Grist Mill, offers unique shopping opportunities in an old mercantile atmosphere. Two floors feature a distinct array of quality items and giftware for all ages and occasions. Shelves are stocked; bins are full with such perennial favorites as old-fashioned candy, soda and unique food items. Virginia wines are highlighted. The second floor features fashionable jewelry, quality collectibles, historic documents, old currency, a nice selection of books for all ages and a Christmas shop ---all of which are staples of this charming store. We entice our guests . . . “if you can think of it . . . we will have it.” Open daily 9:30 – 5:30.
