BOB STROH RECEIVES 2011 TOURISM ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
-
Three New Awards Presented during National Travel & Tourism Week Celebration

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (May 10, 2011) - The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau (CACVB) presented the 2011 Tourism Achievement award to Bob Stroh, General Manager of the Charlottesville Parking Center. The award was presented at an evening reception at King Family Vineyards (6550 Roseland Farm) in Crozet in celebration of National Travel & Tourism Week.

"Through Bob's leadership and partnership during his tenure on our Board of Directors, he has helped to unite the community and enhanced the vitality of our regional tourism industry," said Kurt Burkhart, Executive Director.  Stroh served on the CACVB's Board of Directors since its creation in 2004, before stepping down last year.  George Benford, Vice Chairman of the Board adds, "Bob continues to serve as an asset to our community as Co-Chairman of the Downtown Business Association of Charlottesville; we are fortunate to have such a generous and engaged resident in our community."

The annual tourism reception and award presentation allows the hospitality community the opportunity to celebrate the collaborative efforts of the local tourism industry while acknowledging the efforts of one particular individual who has shown great leadership through their commitment to tourism in our region. This year, the CACVB is pleased to hold the celebration on May 10, which is the Travel Rally day for National Travel and Tourism Week, which takes place annually during first full week of May, since being first celebrated in 1984.

This year marked the first year of a new tradition as well; recognition of three groups in the community for their contributions to the local tourism industry.  The "Big Picture" award recipient was Silverthorn Films for the production of "Vintage: The Winemaker's Year" which tells the story of the rise of the Virginia wine industry through the creation of the 2008 vintage and is being aired on Public Broadcasting Service stations across the nation through 2013.  Bill Reifenberger accepted on behalf of Silverthorn.  The "New Horizons" award recipient was Piedmont Rail Coalition for dedication and leadership in securing rain service between Charlottesville and Washington, DC - the gateway to the Northeast through Amtrak Virginia's Northeast Regional line.  Meredith Richards accepted the award on behalf of the coalition.  The "Crystal Vision" award recipient Starr Hill Presents for establishing and continuing the growth of Charlottesville as an artistic, musical and cultural destination.  Kirby Hutto accepted on behalf of Starr Hill Presents.
