THE ALBEMARLE TOURISM AND ADVENTURE CENTER

INVITES FAMILIES TO A SPECIAL PROGRAM FEATURING
LOCAL AUTHOR JEFF ALT

Author to present THE ADVENTURES OF BUBBA JONES on March 25th

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (March 22, 2017) – The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau (CACVB) announces another “Meet the Author” family event, to be held at the Albemarle Tourism and Adventure Center located in downtown Crozet (5791 Three Notch’d Rd).  On Saturday, March 25th from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., local author Jeff Alt will present his series THE ADVENTURES OF BUBBA JONES.   This program will be enjoyed by children ages 5-12 and their families.

Jeff Alt, family outdoor hiking and camping expert, award-winning author, and a father of two, created THE ADVENTURES OF BUBBA JONES National Park book series with one goal in mind: to inspire children and their families to want to go explore each National Park that they read about. A new book is scheduled to be released each year and each book in the series will focus on a different National Park. The first book released in 2015 is based on the Great Smoky Mountains and the second book in the series, just released on August 25th, 2016, is The Adventures of Bubba Jones: Time Traveling Through Shenandoah National Park.

A former resident of Charlottesville, Jeff has led family hiking seminars in National Parks for many years teaching parents and kids how to enjoy the benefits of the outdoors. As a parent himself, he knows that if you want to help children develop their own internal motivation to explore the National Parks, you need to get them excited about what they will experience and discover and you need to make your adventures fun!

Jeff Alt is an award-winning author.  His books include: A WALK FOR SUNSHINE (an Appalachian Trail memoir), FOUR BOOTS ONE JOURNEY (a John Muir Trail memoir), GET YOUR KIDS HIKING: How to Start Them Young and Keep it Fun, and his new National Park youth book series, THE ADVENTURES OF BUBBA JONES. Alt’s adventures have been featured in media nationwide including: Discoverychannel.com, ESPN’s Inside America’s National Parks, LA Times, and USA Today, to only name a few. He has shared his Appalachian Trail adventures with guests in Shenandoah National Park for more than fifteen years as well as at many other venues. Alt holds a Master’s degree from Miami University in Ohio and a degree from the University of Toledo. He continues to host the annual Sunshine Walk and 5k Run and Roll inspired from his Appalachian Trail journey.

The Albemarle Tourism and Adventure Center’s staff is ready to educate visitors and locals about the array of tourism assets to be enjoyed in our area. This visitor center is located in the historic train depot in Downtown Crozet, which until recently was home to the town’s library. The space inside this beautiful building is shared with a consortium of local artisans, the Crozet Artisan Depot, LLC (Artisans), making it a must-see location for visitors.  Please check the event calendar at www.visitcharlottesville.org/visitors/calendar-of-events/ for a complete list of events.
