TOURISM BUREAU ANNOUNCES
SPRING 2014 SPONSORSHIP GRANT PROGRAM

 

Charlottesville, VA  (January 23, 2014) - The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau (CACVB) today announced the Spring 2014 Tourism Sponsorship Program is now open, with February 8, 2014 as the deadline for submitting completed applications. 

 

The purpose of this sponsorship program is to provide dollar-for-dollar matched funding of up to $7,500 per applicant organization for "tourism-related initiatives," provided that applicants meet the requirements and follow prescribed guidelines and responsibilities as outlined in the CACVB Tourism Sponsorship Program and CACVB Policy Statement.  Those interested in applying can access information on how to apply by going to www.visitcharlottesville.org/sponsorships or emailing, info@visitcharlottesville.org.

 

Primary focus will be given to applicants who can demonstrate that their initiative will "increase visitation and/or exposure of the destination through promotional efforts."   Certain restrictions do apply.  Applicants who have previously applied for and received funding in the current fiscal year (July 1, 2013 - June 30, 2014) through either the ABRT (Agency Budget Review Team) for marketing funding and/or those who have already received sponsorship funding from the summer 2013 sponsorship program are not eligible to apply in this round of sponsorship funding.

 

 "This is a tremendous opportunity for local organizations to leverage their marketing efforts as partners with their local tourism office," said Kurt Burkhart, CACVB Executive Director.  Burkhart encourages those may be considering an event or festival to work with the CACVB to identify soft periods of the year, or shoulder-season months, so that "we can maximize overnight hotel stays by visitors to our area." 

Brigitte Bélanger-Warner, CACVB Director of Sales & Marketing, reiterated the same saying, "We are extremely interested in seeing tourism-initiatives occur when hotel room availability and room rates are at their lowest, which would be in the traditional shoulder season." Off-peak, or shoulder season, is typically mid-November through March and July through mid-August, where occupancy at area hotels is lower.

 

The CACVB plans to notify award recipients in March.
