Liberation and Freedom Days: Reparations Run/Walk

March 2, 2024
Start Time: 7:00 AM

Prolyfyck Run Crew and the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center are coming together to present the annual Liberation and Freedom Day Run/Walk. Liberation and Freedom Day is a municipal holiday that commemorates the day in 1865 when Union General Phillip Sheridan and his troops arrived in Charlottesville, liberating more than 14,000 enslaved people.

The 8-mile run and 4-mile walk provide opportunities for participants to engage with important sites of African American History within the city of Charlottesville while passing some Black-owned businesses along the way.

Prolyfyck Run Crew is a Black-led running group claiming space in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Three mornings a week, they lead group runs starting from the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center and continuing through Black Charlottesville.
