Jennifer's stand can now be found on Saturdays at Umma's restaurant! Read on to hear Jennifer's story, and then head over to the Farmer's Market at Ix to hear from other vendors who are just as excited about local food!

After a short interaction with her, you will understand how passionate she is about what she does. That passion shines through in Jennifer's food and her presence at the market.

Sussex Farms was initially a place for the Naylors to retire peacefully in the country. Jennifer started to raise chickens to feed her family fresh eggs, then her nieces asked her to sell her eggs at the Forest Lakes Farmers’ Market. Soon, people were asking if she would make kimchi and other Korean food. Although adding to her offerings was more work, Jennifer’s passion for eating locally and seasonally inspired her to continue participating at farmers’ markets, providing food for the community.

There’s no question about Sussex Farm’s intentions. Bringing food to the farmers’ market is a real labor of love and Jennifer believes that local and seasonal food is the most nutritious. She wants people to experience her traditional Korean food, made from whole foods that she grows herself, and she believes participating in the farmers’ market gives back to the community by educating customers about why it’s important to purchase locally grown, in-season food.

Lucky for us, there will soon be more opportunities to experience Jennifer's delicious food. Alongside local food truck, Basan, Sussex Farm will be opening a brick-and-mortar location in 2022!

Local Farmers' Markets

Jennifer Naylor is one of many passionate farmers' market vendors in the Charlottesville area. Visiting a local farmers’ market is a great way to experience the Charlottesville area like a local and meet incredible vendors and farmers! Charlottesville and Albemarle County have a truly remarkable local food scene that extends outside the walls of the area's many restaurants.

In the city of Charlottesville, there are two farmers' markets within walking distance of each other, The Charlottesville City Market and the Farmers' Market at IX Art Park. Both take place on most Saturday mornings of the year. There are several more markets in surrounding Albemarle County, such as the Scottsville Farmers Market, where our Mobile Visitor Center is stationed on Saturday mornings (March through mid-December). There are even a few midweek markets, including one at Meade Park and the occasional pop up found at local winery, Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards.
