Since 1991, the Charlottesville Symphony Society has been recognized as one of Central Virginia's leading arts institutions. Its mission is to engage audiences of all ages in Charlottesville and beyond through exceptional musical experiences, imaginative community collaborations and inspiring education programs, independently and in partnership with the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia. Under the dynamic leadership of Music Director Benjamin Rous, the orchestra is admired for classical and holiday performances at UVA's Old Cabell Hall and Charlottesville High School's Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center. The Charlottesville Symphony Society also produces an array of community engagement events such as "Pops at the Paramount" and "Tunes & Tales" at the Virginia Discovery Museum as well as free music education programs that reach thousands of K-12 students in a seven-county region each year.
