Dear Friend of the Heart,
Who in your life has been impacted by heart disease or stroke? Hopefully, no one. Unfortunately, that is very unlikely. Heart disease continues as the #1 cause of death in the United States. In fact, about 2,150 Americans die each day from heart disease and stroke, one person every 40 seconds.
Our mission at the American Heart Association is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. This single purpose drives all that we do. Our efforts to raise funds to fight the #1 and #5 killers, heart disease and stroke, cannot be achieved without the support of our friends in the community.
Each year we host multiple events in the Central Virginia area to bring awareness and education about our key issues and to raise funds for invaluable heart disease and stroke research. The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s premiere fundraising event, designed to promote physical activity and heart healthy living. It is a family friendly environment fun for people of all ages!
One of our most successful strategies to help raise funds for the Heart Walk is through our online challenges which create friendly competition to raise important research dollars. For every $1 raised by the American Heart Association, 93 cents goes back into funding for research and educational programming.
