John Borden Evans Exhibit at Les Yeux du Monde

For the final exhibition of 2016, Les Yeux du Monde presents new paintings by one of the first artists it showed twenty years ago, John Borden Evans. Born in Scotland and educated at Woodberry Forest and Davidson College, Evans is a veteran of the art world with exhibitions and survey shows throughout the east coast and Texas. Currently, Evans lives and paints on his farm in North Garden, Virginia. While his subjects are often everyday landscapes, night skies, cattle, and creatures of his North Garden environment, his resulting acrylic paintings on paper and canvas are anything but ordinary. He amplifies what he sees and unearths the magical, pulsing life force beneath, creating a heightened reality of magical realism. Often lying just underneath the surfaces of his paintings are hidden words, phrases, and previous versions of paintings, adding new dimensions in texture and mystery to the works.

There will be an opening reception on Friday, 18 November from 5 - 7 p.m. (free and open to the public) and a Lunch with the Artist on Wednesday, December 7 at noon (reservations required, $15, free for Collectors Club). The gallery is open Thursday through Sunday 1 - 5 and by appointment.
