Juniper's Lark is a jazz-inspired rootsy pop trio from Charlottesville, Virginia made up of Jen MacDonald, Kyleen Kendall, and Drew Pompano. Having recently released an EP this past fall, they have been performing locally and are pleased to be part of the Batesville scene.
An English teacher by day and mother by night, Jen MacDonald (singer/songwriter) began songwriting unexpectedly and performing a capella until joining up with her talented and accomplished bandmates. MacDonald's quirky lyrics are inspired by the writing of Dorothy Parker, and the melodies hearken from the popular jazz standards of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald to the punk era of the Violent Femmes and The Clash.
A Pennsylvania native, Kyleen Kendall (guitar, harmonica) got her start as a singer/songwriter in Pittsburgh. Since then, she has performed with various cover bands, a musical showcase and original groups throughout Eastern North Carolina. While she continues to write and perform her own music, she enjoys playing a supporting role in Juniper's Lark, helping craft subtle progressions while establishing grooving rhythms.
A transplant from Chicago, Drew Pompano's (bass) involvement with Juniper's Lark is the result of a fortuitous meeting at an open mic. Pompano recorded and performed with the roots music big band Jenny Dragon, the chamber folk duo the Aldermaniacs, and also still holds the bass chairs in Debra Guy's live band and rock outfit Pale Blue Dot. You may also find him earning his keep by playing in the pit ensembles for local musical theater companies.
