Faculty Panel: What is Public History?

April 9
6:00 PM to 7:30 PM

Monroe Hall 118

248 McCormick Road
Charlottesville, Virginia 22904

Hosted by UVA's Third Year Council and Virginia Guides Service, this panel discussion brings together four of UVA's leading voices at the intersection of history, preservation, and public life: Professor Claudrena Harold, Professor Andrew Kahrl, Preservationist and Landscape Architect Rachel Lloyd, and UVA Public Historian Gillet Rosenblith. Together, they'll explore what distinguishes public history from traditional academic history, how it shapes the communities and landscapes around us, and why it matters more than ever today. Whether you're a history enthusiast, considering a career in the humanities, or simply curious about how history is lived outside the classroom, this is a rare opportunity to hear from scholars and practitioners who are redefining how history is told and who gets to tell it.
