Join us for a unique art-making experience at James Madison’s Montpelier, where history, nature, and creativity come together in a hands-on workshop exploring the magic of sun prints (cyanotypes). Using light-sensitive paper, sunlight, and found natural materials, participants will create striking blue-and-white prints inspired by Montpelier’s landscape.

We’ll begin with a guided hike through the historic grounds, foraging for leaves, grasses, seed pods, and other natural artifacts. Participants are also welcome to bring small found objects or personal keepsakes to incorporate into their prints. After gathering materials, we’ll return to the classroom to arrange and expose our designs in the sun, learning the basics of the cyanotype process and experimenting with composition and contrast.

This workshop is perfect for nature lovers, artists, and anyone curious about alternative photography or eco-friendly art techniques. No prior experience is necessary.
