Super Saturdays at the Garden!

March 28
10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Botanical Garden of the Piedmont

950 Melbourne Road
Charlottesville, Virginia 22901

This open house style event is a chance for the community to join us in the Garden and explore our programs, steward the site, join a tour, or just spend time in nature. One Saturday a month we will host up to three scheduled events to participate in at the Garden, as well as have staff and volunteers on site to answer questions and find out more about what’s next for the Garden.

Super Saturdays at the Garden March 28th Schedule:

10am-12pm Garden Guardians – Steward the Garden site with our Landscape Manager and volunteers

10-11:30am Poetry Tea Time Workshop (ages 8-12) – Up to 10 youth poets/aspiring poets are welcome to join this collaborative time for inspiration, creation, and affirmations in the garden. We’ll gather for a lesson on poetics, then meander as a group through the garden space collecting details for original pieces of writing. There will be tea and fruit for everyone to enjoy while we compose, and then a chance to share and offer appreciative feedback. Everyone will leave with a brand new poem and ideas on how to establish a nature-writing practice at home. Registration required.

11am-1pm Volunteer Meet and Greet – The Garden is recruiting volunteers! Meet staff and learn about volunteer opportunities.

11:30am-12:30pm Haiku Kite Table – Drop by this special poetry station led by Gwendolyn Bright to help the Garden grow with poetry. Add on to our haiku kite to write brief nature-inspired poems on ribbons that will be sweet keepsakes of the Garden’s springtime.

12pm -1pm Music in the Garden – Charlottesville Albemarle Saxophone Ensemble

1-2pm – Garden Site Tour – Registration required.
