Fan Mountain Observatory

Fan Mountain Observatory is open to the public twice a year, once in April and once in October. The Fan Mountain Observing Station is located 13 miles south of Charlottesville in a very rural setting.
Admission is free but tickets are required for Fan Mountain public nights. To request tickets, send a self-addressed stamped envelope, along with the number of tickets requested (up to 6), to:

Requests for Tickets are only accepted at certain times of the year:
For the April Fan Mountain Public Night, send requests starting March 1st (the supply of tickets is usually exhausted by the 3rd week of March).
For the October Fan Mountain Public Night, send requests starting September 1st (the supply of tickets is usually exhausted by the 3rd week of September).
Please Note: Owing to the demand for tickets, groups cannot be accommodated at Fan Mountain.
All requests must be accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope or tickets cannot be sent. Friends of the Leander McCormick Observatory do NOT need tickets for Fan Mountain Public Nights.
Tickets will be mailed out 2-3 weeks prior to the public night, on a first come, first served basis until the supply is exhausted.
