Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau Launches Community Conversations on Regional Identity

“It’s Our Time to Give Voice to Who We Are”: Community-led brand initiative enters next phase with in-person and virtual workshops in July

July 9, 2025

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau (CACVB) today announced the full schedule of Defining Us: A Regional Identity Workshop sessions taking place throughout July, inviting residents from across the region to participate in shaping a new, community-rooted tourism brand.

These sessions are part of the ongoing Charlottesville Albemarle Community-Led Brand Initiative, launched earlier this summer, to ensure that the region’s tourism identity and story are shaped by the people who live it every day. The goal is to create a brand that feels honest, inclusive, and reflective of both Charlottesville and Albemarle County—one that welcomes visitors while staying true to local voices and values.

“It’s our time to give voice to who we are—let them hear from us directly. From all of us,” said Courtney Cacatian, Executive Director of the CACVB. “This isn’t just about tourism—it’s about identity, connection, and belonging. It’s about telling our own story, together.”

The initiative includes seven Defining Us: Regional Identity Workshop sessions:

  • Four in-person sessions hosted at locations across Charlottesville and Albemarle County
  • Three virtual sessions via Zoom, including options during the day, evening, and weekend to maximize accessibility

Each 90-minute session offers participants the chance to share stories, explore shared values, and reflect on what makes this region meaningful—information that will directly inform the tone, voice, and visual identity of the new regional brand.

Community members are also encouraged to take the online community survey, open now through July 31 at WeSeeYouCville.org.
