Destination Development Initiatives

We aim to build the economic prosperity of the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County by building multi-stakeholder strategic partnerships that support our destination’s brand pillars.

We invite you to learn more about our ongoing work and initiatives below to see if you'd like to get involved.

Discover Black Cville

Discover Black Cville is a grassroots effort to highlight local black owned businesses, attract black visitors and increase access to the visitor economy. The CACVB worked with community stakeholders to create the Discover Black Cville brand, which is now managed by a steering committee of volunteers.

If you have a local black-owned business or would like to support this effort, please email blackcville@gmail.com.

Outdoor Recreation

As a destination, Charlottesville and Albemarle County offers acres of land and water to explore. To better the visitor experience, the CACVB convenes outdoor recreation partners on an ongoing basis to discuss destination wide initiatives, upcoming projects and events, and industry concerns.

If you are an outdoor recreation organization that would benefit from joining the conversation, please reach out to development@visitcharlottesville.org to be added to the mailing list.

Tourism for All

The Tourism for All initiative is led by the CACVB and serves as our destination’s vision for creating a better quality of life for our residents, while creating the best possible experience for visitors. The program is open to hospitality partners within the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County.

During this training program, businesses receive support in creating a welcoming statement and action plan for their organization. Support is given to those partners interested in creating a positive work environment, ensuring that their business is welcoming to all visitors, developing local partnerships, and creating promotional strategies that include and attract people of all backgrounds and abilities. This project is a pilot being conducted in coordination with Destinations International and TripAdvisor.

To find out more about this program, visit the Tourism for All page.

VA250

The Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250) serves to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War, and the independence of the United States in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The CACVB is coordinating the local effort on behalf of Charlottesville, Scottsville and Albemarle County and focusing on revolutionary ideas as the local theme.

To list a related event or support the local effort, please reach out to development@visitcharlottesville.org.

Wheel the World

With the goal of making Charlottesville and Albemarle County a more accessible and inclusive destination, the CACVB partnered with Wheel the World, a travel solution for finding travel experiences based on an individual’s accessibility needs. This partnership provided industry partners with accessibility assessments of their properties and staff training. Those partners that completed the assessment are featured on the Wheel the World site.

Wheel the World offers assessments and training to tourism-relation businesses on an ongoing basis. For more information about Wheel the World services, visit their webpage.

For businesses that have completed the assessments and need assistance with accessing training or their Wheel the World listing, please contact development@visitcharlottesville.org.

Workforce & K-12

The CACVB supports student learning within the tourism industry by working with local schools and educational organizations.

By educating students about careers in the hospitality field and providing budding talent with job opportunities, our destination can continue to develop a new generation of leadership. Our K-12 workforce programming includes exploration days and fieldtrips, school presentations, and job fairs. To get involved in this work, contact development@visitcharlottesville.org.
