C and O Restaurant

515 E. Water Street
Charlottesville, Virginia 22902

This unprepossessing brick front, complete with a faded Pepsi sign, might make you think twice, but don't be deterred, for the C&O provides the town's most unusual setting for highly acclaimed fare. A Food & Wine magazine reviewer raved: "I can assure you that not since Jefferson was serving imported vegetables and the first ice cream at Monticello has there been more innovative cooking in these parts."

From all appearances, the creaky floors in this charming old building were around in Jefferson's day. Changing monthly, the menu is basically country French but ranges across the globe--from Thailand to New Mexico and Louisiana--for additional inspiration. Many patrons stop downstairs, a rustic setting of exposed brick and rough-hewn barn wood, while others proceed upstairs to a more formal venue. Both dining areas have candlelight, tables adorned with attractive flower arrangements, the same excellent menu choices, one of the best cheese plates in town and an extensive wine list with premium wines by the glass.

The restaurant has 6 unique rooms and venues, including indoor and outdoor settings to accommodate your special event or party from 10 to 40 people. Catering also available.
