Known for his innovation and winemaking expertise, Michael Shaps has established himself at the forefront of the modern Virginia wine industry. He produces wines under the Michael Shaps label and for several prestigious wineries throughout the state.
Founded in 2007, Michael Shaps Wineworks creates small batch, complex wines with careful attention to the details of fine wine production in a traditional old-world style. We use natural yeast and our wines spend a significant amount of time in barrel prior to release. Our winery site is nestled in the woods south of Charlottesville, and we are all devoted to the craft of winemaking.
Michael Shaps Winery on Harris Creek Road offers a traditional tasting of the Michael Shaps Virginia wines, as well as the Maison Shaps Burgundy wines--imported from Michael's winery in Meursault, France. This beautiful tasting room offers plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with an expansive deck, stone patio, and front lawn.
