In 1994, when owner Amy Gardner launched Scarpa, the airy and charming shoe boutique in the North Wing of Barrack’s Road Mall, her carefully edited selection of footwear such as Taryn Rose and Claudia Ciuti heels, Dansko clogs and Mezlan driving loafers became an immediate hit. Nearly thirteen years later, the array of elegant styles has grown to include Orla Kiely handbags, Inhabit cashmere wraps, Colette Malouf barettes, and Gabrielle Sanchez earrings.

Drawing inspiration from her UVA architecture degree, Amy has created a world in Scarpa that breathes new life into stuffy shoe establishments: Graceful, sunny and never overwhelming, the modern design and clean, organized displays surrounded by overstuffed couches are as welcoming as the knowledgeable, down-to-earth staff members. From Kooba, Botkier and Rafe bags to Dana Kellin and Nava Zahavi jewelry to Loeffler Randall heels, Sigerson Morrison ballet flats and Cordani platforms, Scapra soothes the soles of every new visitor.

Scarpa’s sister store next door, The Great State Of, exudes the same architectural attention to detail, with more casual offerings for both men and women including Keen, Puma, Gola and Lilla P. tees.
