Wisdom in the Wandering
Janice Stegall-Seibert’s art is an invitation to slow down, wander, and notice what reveals itself along the way. Come meet the artist at her opening show on Friday, October 2nd from 5-8pm during the Historic Downtown Mall's First Friday event.
This body of work grew from a year of unexpected turns, quiet moments, waiting, wondering, and searching for beauty in the midst of it all. Janice found herself returning again and again to the creative process—not as a way to escape what was unfolding, but to listen, to wonder, to find beauty in the unexpected, and to embrace the journey as it came.
She gathers fragments: old sheet music, faded papers, found words, color, texture, images from nature, and bits of memory. She layers them intuitively, allowing each piece to unfold rather than knowing exactly where it is going. Sometimes the smallest scraps become the most meaningful discoveries.
Creating has become a kind of meditation for Janice—a place to listen, to wonder, and to reconnect with something deeper. The labyrinths speak to the winding paths within. The gardens celebrate moments of beauty and renewal. The small collages and Tiny Treasures hold little sparks of possibility. Her Soul Sparks offer words of encouragement gathered along the way.
Together, these pieces reflect what the artist is learning: the journey doesn't have to be perfectly mapped to be meaningful. There is wisdom in wandering, beauty in the unexpected, and sometimes magic waiting just beyond what we thought we were looking for.
