Join us in July as we feature "Virginia Plein Air", an exhibition of paintings by guest artist Debra Sheffer. Debra’s passion for painting began during a college visit to the National Gallery of Art, where a portrait by Robert Henri sparked her fascination with expressive brushwork, vibrant color, and painting from direct observation.

After beginning her career in graphic design, Debra pursued fine art studies at Beverley Street Studio School in Staunton, Virginia, where she continues to learn from and be inspired by fellow artists. Most of her paintings are created outdoors, allowing her to observe and capture the ever-changing effects of light, atmosphere, and the landscape.

Her background in design informs her artistic process, often beginning with a simple value study before developing color, shape, and form. Influenced by artists such as Edgar Payne, William Wendt, Fairfield Porter, and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Debra’s recent work reflects a growing interest in simplifying shapes and exploring a more abstract approach to the landscape.

We invite you to enjoy "Virginia Plein Air" and experience Debra’s fresh, observational approach to capturing the beauty of Virginia’s landscapes.
