Locate: Metal Detection Three-Day Expedition for Veterans Day

Our goal in this particular program is to give participants the opportunity to learn and experience how archaeologists use metal detectors in the discovery and analysis of archaeological sites, an archaeological tool long established and utilized at Montpelier.

During the 2026 Metal Detecting Expedition, we will be working in a field near Arlington House located on the Montpelier property. This site is associated with an early 19th-century mill, a domestic site, and was the possible location of a Civil War military encampment. We are excited to begin this program on Veterans Day and offer a discount to veterans.
