Celebrate America the Beautiful during June Super Saturday as we honor our nation’s 250th anniversary and the incredible beauty of native plants. Enjoy family-friendly activities, discover the important role native species play in our ecosystems, and explore the Garden while celebrating the natural treasures that make America unique.

8-10a Garden Guardians
Steward the Garden with other volunteers and learn about what’s growing and Garden management with our Landscape Manager, Bridget Curran.
9-12p Summer Poetry Walk
While strolling the Garden view excerpts of nature inspired poems.
9-12p Explore to Read
Explore the garden trails while discovering enlarged storybook pages.
9-12p Poetry Activity Table
Help write a community poem inspired by the Garden with Educational Coordinator Bruce Gatling-Austin.
930-11a Plein Aire with Robin Hoffman
This art class with local artist Robin Hoffman teaches ages 5-adult how to paint in the outdoors without leaving a footprint. All supplies will be provided, just bring an open mind and be prepared for outdoor conditions including mud, bugs, and varying weather. This 1hr+ workshop will be followed by an art show to share and admire everyone’s work! Registration required.
10-11a Peggy Cornett- Thomas Jefferson's Flowers
Enjoy an intimate talk with Peggy Cornett, acclaimed author of Thomas Jefferson’s Flowers! Peggy will discuss her book and the research behind it, highlighting Thomas Jefferson’s beautiful and unique plant collection and its significance in American horticultural history.
1030-12p Flower Pressing and Preserving
Learn techniques to press and preserve flowers with our Landscape Manager, Bridget Curran.
11-12p Music in the Garden- Rivanna Winds
The Garden has received a generous grant to feature a classical music performance series in the Garden. Each concert will feature a different group highlighting a variety of instruments and musical arrangements. Enjoy this free outdoor concert and bring chairs or blankets as seating is limited in our mini amphitheater. If it rains, the performance will take place under the tent.
12-1p Native Plant Walk
Join Virginia Master Naturalist John Holden for a Native Plant walk over gentle terrain. You’ll learn to identify Virginia Native Plants in a variety of ways. Space is limited to 16 Participants.
