October is coming to an end and November begins over the weekend, but that does NOT mean fall is over in Charlottesville & Albemarle County! There’s still plenty of color to be found and this week’s fall foliage update will let you know exactly where to find it.
In the city of Charlottesville & Albemarle County, there continues to be beautiful fall foliage in this last week of October. Oranges and yellows continue to be the primary colors, with a few bursts of red found here and there. This weekend will be another fine opportunity to take a road trip and get perhaps one last look at this season’s fall foliage, so come see us soon! The remnants of Hurricane Zeta rolled through the region on Thursday, but that’s just a distant memory now. The weather is looking sunny, albeit a bit chilly, so remember to bring the jackets as you plan your trip.
In the nearby Shenandoah National Park (which can be accessed from downtown Charlottesville in a mere half hour), fall foliage has pretty much come to a close in the higher elevations as the tress continue their preparation for the upcoming winter. There’s still color to be found in the lower elevations along Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway, but again, the time to catch this color is most likely limited to the next week. You can follow webcams placed throughout the park to get a glimpse, in real time, of how the colors are progressing.
Late-October and early-November are beautiful times in Charlottesville & Albemarle County to go for a hike, head to one of our orchards or enjoy a wonderful meal at one of our renowned restaurants on the patio. While November’s temperatures can fluctuate substantially from day to day, generally the weather stays mild for much of the month, so all these things can continue to be enjoyed for weeks to come. Pro tip: don’t think of winter as the end of enjoying the great outdoors. In fact, this is quite the opposite. The winter season can be a wonderful time to be outdoors for hiking. Without foliage on the trees, the views open up quite a bit from what you would experience during the warmer months. You also don’t have to worry if you forget your bug spray!
