This week we’ve been highlighting everything that fuels the spirit of travel here in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. We’ve covered our UNESCO World Heritage Sites and other historic attractions. We’ve shared rare pictures of iconic landmarks and scenic views. All this and more will be waiting for you when it’s time to travel again.
During these unprecedented times, many locals—including our dedicated team of travel specialists—have been finding ways to inspire, uplift and look out for our community. Normally you can find our travel specialists chatting warmly with visitors at our downtown and Crozet visitor centers. Because they love this place we call home, their fondness of all there is to admire and experience here is at the heart of these conversations. They are the trusted experts every resident could learn a thing or two from, even lifelong townies. Our visitor centers will reopen, and our travel specialists will be have the latest on openings and events when that time comes, but the work they’ve been putting in while we all shelter in place has been valiant, and we would like to take a moment to recognize them for it.
Since mid-March our travel specialists have been busy lending their time and talents to the Albemarle County Incident Management Team and the Charlottesville City Economic Development Department. Their names are Angie, Anthony, Bob, Carla, and John. With the help of Amanda—without whom our office could not run—the travel specialists have been reaching out to essential businesses, providing timely “Slow the Spread” information (nigh on a thousand individual calls and counting). They have also been asking for and compiling feedback from the hundreds of businesses they’ve reached out to, feedback which has been of critical importance to the Emergency Incident Command Team moving forward. Many businesses shared positive stories about what they were doing to keep the community safe, and expressed to us that they were grateful to have received timely updates from such warm, personable people.
We have all made significant adjustments during this time, but few have taken to their new responsibilities as earnestly as our travel specialists have. Thank you, all! You are a pleasure to work with, and integral to this beautiful place we call home.
