It may be hard to believe, but the Thanksgiving holiday weekend is upon us. And even though the holidays will look a bit different this year, there are still plenty of safe, socially-distanced ways to enjoy Charlottesville & Albemarle County. Of course, the weather plays a large part in what we can do outdoors at this time of year, so this blog post will mark the first of many weekly updates on the weekend forecast for those who are looking to take a weekend road trip to the Charlottesville area.

Late November can be a very fickle time when it comes to weather in Charlottesville & Albemarle County. Luckily for us, the weather looks to be a real treat this weekend! For those looking to plan a getaway, here’s what you can expect.

Friday’s forecast is nothing short of stellar. Considering our average highs in late November are in the lower 50s, this Friday, we will be treated to ample sunshine and daytime highs in the mid 60s! Any rain that we see on Thanksgiving will be long gone by the time Friday arrives and this sunshine will take us right into the weekend. On Saturday, expect mostly sunny skies to continue, with slightly cooler temperatures in the lower 60s – still well above our seasonal averages. As we transition into Sunday, mostly sunny skies will stick around, with high temperatures in the upper 50s to near 60.

All in all, this forecast gets a 10/10 for its ample amounts of sunshine (which always makes it feel warmer than it is) and temperatures running some 5-10 degrees above average. This means perfect weather for getting outdoors and enjoying one of the region’s many wineries or getting in a late fall hike. Without the foliage on the trees, you can get even better views of our nearby Blue Ridge Mountains and you don’t have to worry about packing the bug spray!

Also, with the holidays coming up, now is the perfect time to get that special one-of-a-kind gift from one of the Charlottesville area’s many toy stores or boutique shops. After all of that shopping, you will certainly have worked up an appetite, and with temperatures in the 60s, outdoor dining will be an enjoyable way to enjoy the historic pedestrian Downtown Mall, located in the heart of the city.
