Winter continues to chug right along and so far, it’s generally been a tame one. Snowflakes have been fairly sparse this entire season and any significant bouts of cold weather have been virtually nonexistent. If you’re thinking about hopping in the car for a weekend getaway, it looks like another stunning weekend awaits here in Charlottesville & Albemarle County!

As we gear up for the weekend on Friday, ample sunshine will be with us throughout the day meaning plenty of sparking blue winter skies. Temperatures will be in the low 50s in the afternoon, but some gusty winds will make it several degrees cooler – so pack that winter jacket!

That winter jacket will continue to come in handy throughout the weekend. Despite lots of sunshine on Saturday and Sunday, temperatures will only reach the low 40s. Those gusty breezes will remain as well, meaning wind chills will stay in the 30s for most of the day, especially on Saturday. But despite the cool temperatures, the lack of any real precipitation means there are still plenty of things to see and do here in Charlottesville & Albemarle County.

Many restaurants, breweries and wineries are offering heated outdoor spaces, so you can safely eat & sip some of the region’s finest food and craft beverages. Plan a hike and enjoy views you don’t often get to see during the warmer months because of the foliage. Or for something you’ve never been able to do before in the winter, you can visit Carter Mountain Orchard! That’s right – this family-favorite attraction is now open the winter Fridays – Sundays, if the weather is looking good. No tickets or reservations are required. This means you can warm up with those famous apple cider donuts all winter long!
Look for another weekend weather update next week. We look forward to welcoming to Charlottesville & Albemarle County soon!
