It’s time for the weekend weather update – and this week, it’s shaping up to be an interesting one, especially for the snow lovers. If you’re thinking of hopping in the car for a quick trip to Charlottesville & Albemarle County, here’s what you can expect.

It’s certainly feeling like winter these days as we get ready to wrap up the month of January. Friday’s weather will feature bright sunshine, but temperatures will struggle to climb into the upper 30s during the afternoon. Bundle up, because occasional gusty breezes will make things feel several degrees cooler throughout the day. Don’t put that jacket away on Saturday either. Temperatures will only reach 40 degrees, but the winds will settle down, which will make it feel more comfortable. Sunny skies will take us through most of the day, with some clouds arriving in the afternoon.

Things get interesting going into Saturday night. Chances of snowfall will start to increase late Saturday night and a rain/snow mix is likely going into Sunday. There are still quite a few uncertainties as to where this system will track, which will have impacts on precipitation type and amount. Regardless, the weather definitely turns unsettled for the second half of the weekend, so enjoy all the sunshine you can on Friday and Saturday!

We take safety very seriously in Charlottesville & Albemarle County, so be sure to wear a face covering when you visit. Many restaurants, wineries and breweries have heated outdoor spaces so you can eat and sip in a safe, comfortable way. Or bundle up and hit one of our many trail systems to soak up lots of fresh air and beautiful views.

Look for another weekend weather update next week. We look forward to welcoming to Charlottesville & Albemarle County soon!
